Betty Ross Scott Johnson, 84, of Athens, died Thursday night, August 30, 2012 at her residence.
A native of Meigs County and longtime resident of McMinn County she was a daughter of the late Charles Franklin, Sr. and Betty McKenzie Scott and was also preceded in death by her husband, Judge Jack Johnson, (Nov. 4, 1979); 2 sisters, Frances Gregory and Mildred Scott; and two brothers, Charles F. Scott, Jr and Boyd Kay Scott.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Athens. She was a graduate of McMinn County High School, where she played Basketball, tennis, was a majorette and a drum majorette, and was also a graduate of Virginia Intermont College and had attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She was a member of the Athens Garden Club, volunteered at E.G. Fisher Library and was a member of the Republican Women's club. She had been associated with Tennessee Wesleyan College Bookstore, Office of McMinn County Highway Dept. and Congressman John J. Duncan's office.
She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Jennifer and Emerson Sharpe of Kingsport, Laura and Steve Faris of Athens, and Jill Johnson of Cookeville; two granddaughters, McKenzie Elizabeth Sharpe of Chicago, ILL, and Tara Hutsell of Memphis; one grandson, Dr. Emerson E. Sharpe, III and his wife Clover of Denver, Col, five sisters-in-law, Candy Scott and Lola Bell Scott both of Athens, Jo Johnson Brakebill of San Antonio, TX, Mrs. Harold Johnson of Philadelphia, PA and Mrs. French Johnson of Atlanta, GA, and several nieces and nephews.
