George Lytton Newport, 88, of Athens, died Monday morning at McMinn Memorial Nursing Home.
A native of Hickman, Tennessee and longtime resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late
Sanders S. and Addie Barbee Newport and was also preceded in death by his wife Lorene Farr
Newport, January 15, 2007.
He was of the Baptist faith. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a medic. He was associated
with Baxter Laboratories for 30 years as a sales representative and then served as an International
Medical Consultant until his retirement.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Nick Fortson of Athens, brother-in-law, Larry
Hyche of Fortson, GA, sister-in-law, Patricia C. Bush of Jacksonville, FL and several beloved nieces
and nephews.
