Sheilah Davis Farmer Grubb, 76, of Athens, died Saturday morning at home. A native of McMinn County, she was a daughter of the late Hubert Lee and Lucile Nicholson Davis. She was preceded in death by her first husband Coach Dwain Farmer.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for 49 years serving in numerous ways including as a member of the choir and leader of vacation bible school. A graduate of Tennessee Wesleyan College and the University of Tennessee, she taught in McMinn County and Athens City Schools for nearly thirty years winning Teacher of the Year Award. As an avid knitter, she was always creating something for her family, friends or those in need. She was active in the Alexander Keith chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. In 1992 she was named Mother of the Year by the Athens Chamber of Commerce. She has been a steadfast supporter of Tennessee Wesleyan College in many ways for almost 50 years. She served on the Alumni Board and she received the Friends of Tennessee Wesleyan College Award in 2013.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth R. Grubb of Athens; sister, Anne Davis Fleenor and husband Charley of Knoxville; brother, H. Lee Davis, III and wif Carol of Hanover, MD; four children, Debbie Samples and her husband Chuck of Jacksboro, Melissa Baker of Athens, Dalen Farmer and his wife Auri of Nashville and Mary Williams of Calhoun; six grandchildren, Megan, Mandy and Molly Baker, Joshua and Jim Williams and Lucianna Cole; and step-children, Keith Grubb of Athens and Julie Shaw and her husband Mark of Navarre, FL.
A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 am, Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Trinity United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. Steve Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery. The body will lie in state for 1 hour prior to the service.
The family will receive fr4ends from 5-7 pm, Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Smith Funeral Home.
