Golda Faye Russell Toomey, 102, of Tellico Plains and formerly of Athens, left this earth for her heavenly home, Monday morning, June 30, 2014.
A native of McMinn County, she was a daughter of the late Sam and Callie Melton Russell and was also preceded in death by her husband, Claude C. Toomey and a son-in-law, Gary Fillers.
She was a member of East Athens Baptist church where she taught a Sunday School Class for many years. She also attended the New Providence Missionary Baptist Church in Tellico Plains. She was associated with McKeehan Chair Company until her retirement.

She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Nancy Fillers of Chattanooga and Barbara and Don Sliger of Tellico Plains; four grandsons, Jeffery Fillers (Debbie), Scott Fillers, Christopher Fillers (Ginger), and Van Sliger (Robin); great-grandchildren, Ridge, Lake and Meadow Sliger, Brent, Jason and Jessica Fillers, Carmen, Jordan and John Luke Fillers; and two great-great-grandchildren, Ben and Knox Fillers.

A funeral service will be conducted, 2:00 pm, Wednesday, July 2, 2014 in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with Pastor Van Sliger officiating. Interment will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00-1:30 pm Wednesday prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.
