Warren McLean Dougherty left us brokenhearted today. He leaves behind his precious daughter, Willow Marie, whom he loved so much, and his parents, Blan and Kathy, and sister and brother-in-law, Betsy and Russell Henson that loved him so much as well as his new nephew, Ryland Jack. While he searched several years to find peace, in the end, peace found him.
McLean was jovial, considerate, and never met a stranger. He possessed a quick wit, pleasant demeanor, and was always willing to help. He had flaws and challenges, as we all do, but, in the final analysis, we all have lost a good soul with a heart as big as a washtub.
In his youth, he was an excellent and competitive swimmer, having coached the Englewood swim team and contributed to the Athens YMCA and McMinn County High School teams. He was awarded the Fritz Grater Trophy for his efforts and held the Individual Medley record for many years. It is ironic that he left this world due to a swimming accident.
McLean, you will always live in the hearts and memories of those who had the privilege to have known you.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Warren G. “Sparky” and Zonnie Guffey of Riceville and Judson McLean and Marie Dougherty of the Mt. Harmony Community.
He is also survived by aunts and uncles, Debbie Guffey Axley, Tim and Nancy Guffey Kirkland, Pat Dougherty Dodez, Jerry and Joan Dougherty Kilgore, Judd and Lyssa Dougherty and Lowry and Sherry Dougherty.
Cousins, Halie and Nick Sylvester, Caroline Dougherty and Elizabeth and Brandon Dohey, Anna and Matt Woodcock, Brice and Beth Dougherty, Ruthmarie and Adam Wilson, Alexander Dodez, and P.J. Dodez, Michelle and Jody Rice, Candice and Dustin Scoggins. He is also survived by several great-aunts and uncles as well. Also, surviving him is Willow’s mother Katy Rose.
