Charles Henry Engle, Jr., 78, of Athens, died Wednesday night, December 2, 2015 at U.T. Medical Center, lovingly surrounded by his family.
He was a native of Pennsylvania and was a son of the late Charles Henry, Sr. and Mame Cooke Engle.
He was a member of Mars Hill Presbyterian Church of Athens. He served in the U.S. Army and had served as a former camp commander of The Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War. He graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Forestry. In 1963 he was employed as a forester on the Clinch Ranger Station, Jefferson National Forest. In 1966 he was promoted to a Timber Manager on the Chickasawhay District, De Soto National Forest. In 1968 he advanced to District Ranger of the Holly Springs National Forest and later was promoted to District Ranger of the Hiwassee District, Cherokee National Forest. In 1979 Charlie was promoted to the Supervisor's Office in Cleveland,TN. In 1981 he was promoted to Harvesting Specialist, State and Private Forests, National Forest Service in Morgantown, WV. Charlie transferred to Silvicultural Speciallist, Savannah River Project in Aiken, SC. He retired in 1986 from the National Forest Service.
His family was most important to him.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Willa Neudorfer Engle of Athens; two sons Bill Engle and his wife Nancy and their 2 children Corey and Megan and David Engle and his wife Kelly and their three children, Conor, Kasey and Jackson.
A Memorial service will be conducted, 2:00 pm, Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Mars Hill Presbyterian Church with Rev. Les Rust officiating. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service in the fellowship hall. A committal service will be conducted 1:00 pm, Saturday, December 12, 2015, in Belle Vernon Cemetery in Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania.
