Obituary for Mae Jo Long

Mae Jo Long, 89, of Athens, died Wednesday night, April 6, 2016, at Starr Regional Medical Center in Athens.
She was a lifelong resident of McMinn County and was a daughter of the late Joe H. and Otta Mae Coker Long. She was also preceded in death by a sister Peggy L. Rogers, a brother Ed Long and a nephew, Randy Ensminger.
She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Athens where she had served in the Choir. She was a member of the Evening Pilot Club of Athens. She was a graduate of Englewood High School she was the last surviving member of her High School graduating class, and was a graduate of Tennessee Wesleyan College. After graduating from college she worked for Dr. H.R. Thomas, and later worked for Russell Motor Company. She was associated with First National Bank and later Athens Federal Community Bank retiring after 27 years of service.
She is survived by three nieces and their husbands, Becky Ensminger of Cleveland, Mary Elizabeth and Tom McCormack of Winder, GA, and Laura and David Kindle of Knoxville; two nephews and their wives, Mike and Sheila Long of Readyville,TN and Rob and Beverly Long of Englewood; brother-in-law, Jim Rogers of Knoxville; 11 great-nieces and nephews; and 9 great-great nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted, 7:00 pm, Saturday, April 9, 2016 in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with Dr. Jason Clark officiating. The committal service will be 2:00 pm, Sunday in Cedar Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:30-6:30 pm, Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Mike Long, Joshua Alexander, Johnny Taylor, Rob Long, Tom McCormack, Cortland McCormack,
Josh Ensminger, Ryan Ensminger, David Kindle, Chris Long, Trey Seymour, and John Lane. Honorary pallbearers will be the Evening Pilot Club of Athens.
The family suggests memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Athens, 305 Ingleside Avenue, Athens, TN 37303.
