Eula Francis Arnwine Long, 98, of Niota and a resident of Etowah Health Care Center since 1996 died Friday, June 17.
Eula was born on the Arnwine family farm in Niota to parents William Lewis and Lizzie Mae (Sellers) Arnwine on November 17, 1917 and grew up with sisters Faye (Mrs. W.T.) Conar, Edith (Mrs. Ernest) Wallis, and Pearl (Mrs. Howard) Carroll, and brothers Lewis (wife Shirley) and J.L. (wife Louie). Except for Louie all are now deceased.
Eula attended Marshall Hill Baptist Church and school, and later Niota School. In 1937 she married Wayne Erskine Long (deceased 1955) and they had daughters Joan Coleman (husband Atlas) and Barbara Goforth (husband Lee) , and son Jack - all deceased. She is survived by son Gary and wife Judy of Coker Creek, TN. Eula was also preceded in death by grandchildren Marty and Diane Coleman. She is survived by grandchildren Heath, Adam, Nevin and Kimberly Long; Sharon Goforth Gutterry; DeeDee Goforth Johnson; Mike Goforth; and LeAnn Goforth; and by eleven great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
In later years Eula was a member of Union McMinn Baptist Church whose members faithfully provided home Sunday School services and other support to her while she lived in Niota and who continued to stand by her throughout her 20-year stay at EHCC. At EHCC until recent years she was very active in organized activities and her hobby of sewing. She made many friends and received loving care throughout her stay; the family is deeply appreciative of all those who cared for her for so long. A funeral service will be conducted, 6:00 pm, Monday, June 20, 2016 in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Alexander officiating. The committal service will be 10:30 am, Tuesday in Niota Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 pm Monday at the funeral home prior to the service.
