Obituary for Mildred Ray (Davis)

Mildred Davis Ray, 87, of Athens, passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon, October 13, 2016, at her home.
Mildred was a native of Meigs County and a longtime resident of McMinn County, and was a daughter of the late Sam and Maggie Walker Davis. She was also preceded in death by her husband Jimmie Ray, sisters, Tula Scoggins, Sue Land and Ina Lockmiller, and brothers Sam Davis, Jr and Herman Davis.
She was a longtime member of Keith Memorial United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Sheila and Mike Tallent and Susan Ray all of Athens; a special friend to Susan and Mildred, Philip Womack of Sweetwater; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Sharen Ray of Athens; one granddaughter and her husband, Laura and Bill Holaday; two grandsons, Matt Ray and his wife Jennifer, and Adam Ray; two great-grandchildren, Nora Kate Holaday and Maddox David Ray; a sister, Veda Miller of Decatur; a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Careen Davis of Athens; several nieces and nephews; and her very special dog, Riley.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the special care given to Mildred by her caregivers Sharon Anderson, Joyce Stewart and Amedisys Hospice.
A funeral service will be conducted, 7:00 pm, Monday, October 17, 2016 at Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Graybeal and Philip Womack a family spokesperson officiating. The committal service will be 11:00 am Tuesday in Cedar Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:30-6:30 pm Monday at the funeral home prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Matt Ray, Adam Ray, Bill Holaday, Larry Davis, Jimmy Land and Steve Miller.
