William Tex (Bill) Ramey, Sr., 78, of Athens, died Friday morning, January 27, 2017 at his home.
He was a native of Murphy, North Carolina and a longtime resident of McMinn County and was a son of the late Roy Virgil and Ella Davis Ramey. He was also preceded in death by his wife Nina Snell Ramey.
He was of the Baptist faith and had attended Messina College in New York. He was a member of the Marks Masonic Lodge #359 in Huron, Ohio . He was associated with McAbee Construction as a pipefitter at Bowater . He was a wonderful family man and enjoyed bowling and golfing.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Otis Pannell of Athens; a son and daughter-in-law, Tex and Tammy Ramey of Huntsville, Al; one granddaughter, Cady Pannell; three grandsons, George and Mathew Pannell and Justin Ramey; a special niece, Laurie Fracassi of Buffalo, NY; and his beloved dog, Rosie.
A graveside service will be conducted, 2:00 pm, Sunday, January 29, 2017 at Cedar Grove Cemetery with Rev. Boyd Duncan officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00-2:00 pm Sunday prior to the graveside service. Pallbearers will be Justin Ramey, George Pannell, Mathew Pannell, Monica Hammond, Lynn Collins, and Lenny Fracassi, A Masonic service will be provided by the Meridian Sun Lodge #50 F&AM at the funeral home after the visitation.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Bill's name to the Good Faith Clinic, 18 Congress Pkwy, Athens, TN 37303.
