Jack C. Carver, 80, of Athens, died Thursday, March 2, 2017 at NHC of Athens.
He was a lifelong resident of McMinn County and was a son of the late L.J. (Lit) and Katy Byrd Carver. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Jim, Boyd (Boots) and Charles Melvin Carver, an infant son Michael C. Carver, and an infant granddaughter Jennifer Nicole Shell.
He was a member of North Athens Baptist Church. He was associated with Daily Post Athenian for 31 years and later serving with Plastic Industries for 11 years until his retirement. He served in the U.S. Air Force.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Helen Kinser Carver of Athens; a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Brian Shell of Riceville; a son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Rhonda Carver of Athens; one grandson and his wife, Brandon and Leanne Shell of Cleveland; three sisters, Uvina McAllister of Ten Mile, Augustine Holbert and Dorothy Haney both of Athens; and three sisters-in-law, Eileen Carver of Englewood who was like a second mother to him, June Carver of Athens and Nancy Wilson of Riceville.
A funeral service will be conducted 4:00 pm, Saturday, March 4, 2017 in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Kerr officiating. A committal service will be 1:30 pm, Sunday in McMinn Memory Gardens with Military honors provided by the U.S. Air Force. The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 pm, Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service.
Active pallbearers will be David Tilley, Max Gambill, Tracy Wilson, Jimmy Rogers, Greg Hayes, and Doyle Chambers. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews, Tony Carver and Eddie Holbert.
