Catherine Hanks Underdown,88, of Athens, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Starr Regional Medical Center.
She was a lifelong resident of McMinn County and was a daughter of the late Rush and Bertha Hughes Hanks. She was also preceded in death by her husband G.W. (Cowboy) Underdown, a daughter Sharon Jean Underdown, a son Glen Edward Underdown, a grandson Dylan Brooks, a sister Zelda Gibson and a brother J.W. Hanks.
She was a member of Cedar Springs Methodist Church of Athens.
She is survived by a daughter, Brenda Gail Underdown of Athens; a son and daughter-in-law, William Bruce and Phyllis Underdown of Tellico Plains; a granddaughter and her husband, Brandi Michelle and Chris Woods of Madisonville; a grandson, Michael Lee Underdown of Los Angles, California; a great-granddaughter, Morgan Armstrong of Englewood; three sisters, Allyene Cranfill, Laverne Wilson, and Johnnie Benson all of Athens; two special nieces and their spouses, Judy and Larry Gibby of Charleston and Karen and Tony Baker of Riceville; and several other nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted, 5:30 pm, Tuesday, March 7, 2017 in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with Rev. David Neel and Rev. Frank Hicks officiating. The committal service will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at McMinn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 3:00-5:30 pm, Tuesday at the funeral home prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Chris Woods, Larry Gibby, Tony Baker, Tony Baker, Jr, Don Schultz, Wayne Thompson, Chad Colvin, and Michael Underdown.
