He was born in Memphis, grew up in Athens, and lived in California for many years before moving back to Athens, and was a son of the late Dr. James C., Jr. and Lucy Frances Shepard Reid.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of McMinn County High and a 1980 graduate of University of Tennessee in Knoxville with a degree in Zoology and Chemistry. He was an Environmentalist and OSHA Specialist. He was an Eagle Scout.
Jim is survived by three sisters and brothers-in-law, Libby and Steve Langley of Riceville, Mary and Dennis Brown of Athens, and Karen and Tim Scarborough of Greenback; aunts, Opal Hill of Memphis, Emma Jean and Hal McCarter of Memphis and Jan Shepard of Alcoa, TN; uncle Charles Reid of Memphis; nieces, Brandy English, Sarah Roberts and husband T.J., and Grace Scarborough; nephews, Jeb Brown, Matthew Brown, Reid Scarborough, and Luke Langley; great-nieces, Ava Peake and Aubrey Peake; great-nephew, Hunter Peake and many cousins and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted 11:00 am , Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Trinity United Methodist Church. A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall .
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Great Smoky Mountain Association, P.O. Box 130, Gatlinburg, TN 37738-0130.
