Obituary for Kathlyn Stansell (Wade)

Kathlyn Wade Stansell, 88, of Athens, died Saturday morning, April 1, 2017 at Life Care Center of Athens.
She was a long time resident of McMinn County and was a daughter of the late Ransom and Beulah Bohannon Wade. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Winston C. Stansell and a son Timothy C. Stansell.
She became a member of East Athens Baptist Church in 1948 when she married Winston, where she was a member of the Lois Sunday School Class. She was a member of Athenica Chapter #159 OES. She was a graduate of McMinn County High School and retired from the Athens Utilities Board after 50 years of service. She devoted 10 years of her retirement volunteering at Ingleside Elementary School, where she was loving known by teachers, staff, and students as Aunt Kate.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Terrance and Beverly Stansell of Athens; a daughter-in-law, Mary and husband Danny Peters of Knoxville; five grandchildren, Allison and her husband Wayne Daniel, Aaron Stansell, Stephen Stansell and his wife Shelby, Matthew Stansell and his wife Emily, and Meghan and her husband Dustin Evans; four great-grandchildren, Reed Stansell, Leighton Stansell, Huxley Evans and Beau Stansell. She also leaves her loving sister, Marjorie Wade Guffey of Athens; sister-in-law, Jo Stansell of Athens, and a host of relatives and friends.
A Memorial service will be conducted,7:00 pm, Thursday, April 6, 2017 in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Dannel officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5-7 pm at the funeral home prior to the service. A private graveside will be at Clearwater Cemetery.
