Larry Gilbert Wimberly, 78, of Ten Mile, died Sunday, May 28, 2017 at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville.
He was a native of Monroe County and was a son of the late Luther G. and Georgia Kennedy Wimberly. He was also preceded in death by sisters Ada Burke, Beulah Thompson, Gladys Evans, Mildred Browne, and Nanthia Fleming, and brothers, Leon Wimberly and Mansell Frazier.
He was a graduate of McMinn County High School and Tennessee Wesleyan University. He was associated with the Dept. of Defense until his retirement. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara Miller Wimberly of Ten Mile; one daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Brian Grooms of Greenbrier, TN; four special grandsons, Austin Wimberly, Tanyon, Cameron and Zander Grooms; two sisters, Myrtle Gilbert of Powder Springs, GA, and Bessie Harness of Lusby, MD; one brother-in-law, Leroy Fleming of Sweetwater; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will conducted, 1:00 pm, Wednesday, May 31st at McMinn Memory Gardens with Minister Mark Littleton officiating. The family will receive friends at Smith Funeral Home from 6-8 pm, Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
