Henry Vernon Burris, 81, of Calhoun, died Monday morning, January 8, 2018 at Life Care Center of Cleveland.
He was born in McMinn County and lived on the same farm his entire life. He was preceded in death by his parents Harvey and Pauline Shoemaker Burris, his brother Glenn Burris, and his wife Katherine Hale Burris.
Vernon was a member of Calhoun United Methodist Church where he served as a Trustee. He was a member of Tennessee Polled Hereford Association and the American Polled Hereford Association. He took great pride in his Registered Hereford cattle and enjoyed his part time farming. He also worked at Resolute Forest (Bowater) for 45 years.
He is survived by a two daughters and sons-in-law, Renee Burris Medley and her husband Steve of Cleveland and Elaine Burris Geren and her husband Eddie of Calhoun; two granddaughters, Crystle Geren Wright and her husband David of Riceville, and Shelley Geren of Knoxville; one great-granddaughter, Carlie Ann Wright; two uncles, Joe Burris and Reese Burris of Calhoun; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted 1:00 pm, Wednesday, January 10th at Calhoun United Methodist Church with Rev. Corey Miller and Rev. Hugh Bryan officiating. The body will lie in state for 1 hour before the service at the church. Interment will follow in Calhoun Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 pm Tuesday, January 9th at Calhoun United Methodist Church.
Pallbearers will be nephews,and Calvin Cate, Gary Barham and Reed Davis.
