Obituary for Wallace Freeman "Wally" Fowler Jr.

Wallace "Wally" Freeman Fowler, Jr., 65, of Athens died Friday morning, January 12, 2018 at his residence.
He spent most of his life living in South West Virginia and East, TN, and had lived in Athens since 1994. He was the son of the late Rev. Wallace Freeman, Sr and Bonnell Posey Fowler.
He was a Methodist minister for 17 years, was the former Executive Director of Coordinated Charities in Athens, and had retired as a Case worker with the TN Dept. of Children's Services in 2017. He was a graduate of Tennessee Wesleyan University and Emory University.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Meredith Fowler and Jeremy Falls of Athens; a son, Matthew Stephen Fowler; granddaughter, Madelynn Claire Falls; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Barbara and Paul Ketron of Athens, Linda Hall, and Judi and Alan Hawthorne all of Wytheville, VA and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted, 6:00 pm, Monday, January 15, 2018 in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with Dr. Sam Roberts officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 pm at the funeral home prior to the service.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations in honor of Wally be made to McMinn Foster Care Association, c/o Kathy Thompson, 985 Co. Rd. 100, Athens, TN 37303.
