Condolence: I was so sorry to hear of Dr. Snider's passing last evening. I first met Dr. Snider in 2007 when I came to Knoxville to be President of East Tennessee Children's Hospital. Over the years Dr. Snider and I would talk about the needs of children in our region and how the legislature in Nashville is supporting our mutual efforts. I admired her passion for her patients and her commitment to improving the care for children in Tennessee. She was a role model and someone that will be terribly missed.

Condolence: Dr. Iris Snider-Slowey was such a caring and knowledgeable doctor. We go back from the time my first child was born and took wonderful care of all 3 of my children. My oldest child at 5 years old developed Rocky Mountain Fever and she recognized the symptoms immediately and sent us on to UT Hospital. The doctors there told us he could have died had we not taken him to the hospital when we did. We were friends throughout the years, sharing wonderful times and memories together. We, along with our community will miss the love and dedicated service she gave us for all those years.

Condolence: When I was in fifth grade, I slipped into a comatose state after a rough battle with chicken pox. I found out years later that Dr. Snider thought it was Ryne's Syndrome, which is nearly fatal. I remember going into the hospital and a nurse getting ready to take my temperature and the very next thing I remember is waking up in the middle of the night in my bed asking Mom what was going on. What I don't remember is the account my Mom gave me of Dr. Snider staying with me, praying with my family, calming my family down, watching me like a hawk. I have great admiration for doctors, but the type of medicine she administered was the only type that could possibly work, and it's something you don't learn in medical school. It is a gift from God. I am eternally grateful for her watching out for me. She will be greatly missed in the community, and we will be praying for your family.

She was my brother's doctor and both of my children's doctor. My children loved her. She even treated me and my children's father as patients if we were sick when we brought our children to her. Condolence: I started seeing Dr. Snider around 1973 or 1974, right after she opened Athens Pedatrics and I saw her until I was 18. She also started seeing my son with special needs in 1995. I have spent a lot of time on the phone with her and in her office. She was the most caring, compassionate and loving person that I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Even when she would see us in the waiting room, she would give Drake a kiss on the forehead and tell him just a few more minutes or even during flu season we entered though the side door and just went directly to a room. She was also a big advocate for my son with the school system and always stood by what was best for Drake. Our big laugh was knowing she and Drake actually went to the same school building in Maryville. Thank you for loving and caring so much for me and Drake. I know there is no sickness in heaven but I know you are still kissing and hugging all the kids there. We love you

Condolence: Dr. Snider was my pediatrician growing up, so naturally when I had my son- that’s where I took him. I wa a young mom and when my son was about 6 weeks old- he was wheezing one late Sunday night. in a panic, I called Dr. Snider at home. she not only walked me through exactly what I should do, but offered to come over if he didn’t improve. She really was an outstanding person and will be greatly missed in our community.

Condolence: Dr. Slowey delivered both my sons. He often spoke of Iris during office visits. He said only she could drive in Europe since driving on wrong side of the road made him crazy! Iris doctored both my sons. She also was a "go to" doc for school children, especially those who were needy. My college roommate and friend, Jenny Camarata, once referred a student to Iris who correctly diagnosed eye issue and referred the little girl to another physician. Jenny was so impressed with Iris' compassion and great common sense. I taught two of the Slowey boys. Iris and I laughed over many stories mothers of only boys have in common. I never saw Iris that she didn't speak with/to me. She was a one of a kind physician and care giver. In this world of high technology and life that is too fast paced, we could all learn from Iris how to connect with people and embrace one another.

Condolence: So sorry to hear of Dr Snider’s passing. She has been our pediatrician for many years, and will be greatly missed. My son especially enjoyed his checkup last Fall when she had the “talk” with him (he was 16). He still talks and laughs about that experience. God bless her family and comfort them all. I’m comforted in knowing that heaven gained another angel. Fly high Dr Snider! You will be missed!
