Obituary for Marvin Powell

Marvin Powell, 84, of Riceville, died Sunday afternoon, November 15, 2015 at Kindred Hospital in Chattanooga.
He was a lifelong resident of McMinn County and was a son of the late John D. and Cora Gregory Powell.
He was a member of Eastanallee Baptist Church in Riceville, where he served as a deacon. He was a well known dairy farmer in the Sanford Community and was a member of the McMinn County Farm Bureau and had served on the Board of Directors for the McMinn County Farmers Co-op. He was named Farmer of the Year in McMinn County in 1985.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Jean P. Powell of Riceville; daughter, Jean Marie Powell Jones and her husband Tim of Benton; grandson, Garrett Jones and a granddaughter, Chandlee Jones; a son he never had and his family, Rocky and Sandy Sheafer, Lucas Sheafer, Maria Sheafer and Shalin Sheafer all of Riceville; one sister, Charlotte Carpi of California; two nieces. Nancy Powell Koch of Floresville, TX and Judy Powell Luxton of Graford, TX; two nephews, Donald Carpi of California and James Carpi of St. Louis, Missouri; and cousins, Mary Hale and Betty Carolyn Ward both of Decatur, Elizabeth Ann Allen(Doug) of Crossville, Mary Evelyn Kile of Decatur, Harold Powell of Signal Mtn, TN, Preston Powell and Mary Beth Rogers of Americas,GA, Rebecca Franklin of Banner Elk, NC and Mary Ward Langley of Riley, NC .
A funeral service will be conducted, 7:00 pm , Thursday, November 19, 2015 in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Tony Crisp and Rev. Oran Creasman officiating. The committal service will be 11:00 am, Friday, November 20, 2015 in Eastanallee Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 4:00-6:30 pm at the funeral home prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Shalin Sheafer, Lucas Sheafer, James Sheafer, Travis Brock, Freddie Miller, Garrett Jones, Sherman Shamblin, Greg Koch and John Thompson .
