Robert T.(Bob) Zimmer, 90, of Athens, died Thursday afternoon, October 27, 2016.
Bob was born in Wheeling, West Virginia and moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at an early age. He was a longtime resident of Athens and was a son of the late Herman and Esther Maguire Zimmer. He was also preceded in death by a sister and three brothers.
He was a member of Keith Memorial United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Westinghouse High School in Pittsburgh, PA and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was associated with Thomas & Betts (Steel City) for 48 years as a Supervisor of the Plating Department until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Lou Ricci Zimmer of Athens, two daughters and their husbands, Linda and Michael Corash of Kingsport and Kim and Richie Parker of Knoxville; a son and his wife, Bill and Debbie Zimmer of Niota; two granddaughters, Lindsay Statum and husband Brandon and Molly Melton; one grandson, Matthew Melton; and one great-grandson, Bryant Statum.
A funeral service will be conducted, 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, November 1, 2016 in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with Rev. David Graybeal officiating. The committal service will be 11:00 am, Wednesday in Cedar Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:30-6:30 pm Tuesday at the funeral home prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Melton, Michael Corash, Richie Parker, Brandon Statum, Darrell Dumont, and David Purkey.
