Obituary for SaraSue Lucille Hyde (Carter)

SaraSue Lucille Carter Hyde, 90, of Athens, passed away Friday, March 2, 2018.
She was a native of Athens, but spent some time in Chattanooga and Cincinnati, Ohio, and was a daughter of the late Louis Jackson(L.J.) and Addie Vaughn Carter. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, William Russell Flanigan, Jr. and her second husband, Doug Hyde, her grandson, Michael Carter Flanigan, and a sister Gertrude Roberts.
Lucille was an active member of First Baptist Church of Athens.
For many years, she and her husband Doug owned and operated Lakeside Market and Watts Bar Cabin Patrol in Ten Mile, TN. She was a talented ceramics artist, teacher, judge and owned Lakeside Ceramics. At that time, she was involved in a group that gathered by the lake to worship. From that, Lakeside Baptist Church was founded, and she was a charter member.
She returned to Athens in the early eighties and became involved in the McMinn County Historical Society. She received the Vivid Award given by the City of Athens, for her volunteer work in researching the History book, "McMinn County, Tennessee and It's People 1819-1927 and For Whom The Bell Tolls, a history of Mouse Creek Elementary School 1912-2000." She was also a member of the Athenian Chapter #159 Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her son, Richard (Marsha) Flanigan; one granddaughter, Melissa Carroll Flanigan all of Athens; one grandson, John Louis (Amy) Flanigan of Chattanooga, TN; three great-grandsons, Yancey, Ethan(Porsha), and Dustin (Fiancee, Lydia Bryant) Giltnane; and great-great-grandchildren, Maddilynn, Cooper, Callie, AddyVon and Carlee Giltnane.
A funeral service will be conducted, 1:30 pm, Thursday, March 8, 2018 in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with Dr. Jason Clark officiating. Interment will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 4:30-7:00 pm Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at the funeral home, and from 12:00-1:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be grandson, John Flanigan, great-grandsons, Yancy, Ethan and Dustin Giltnane, Freddie Cagle, and Fidel Valencia.
The family wishes to thank the Staff of Life Care Center of Athens for their loving care of Lucille.
The family suggests memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Athens, 305 Ingleside Avenue, Athens, TN 37303.
