Wayne Eugene Hicks, 83, of Englewood, passed away Monday, December 31, 2018 at Starr Regional Medical Center in Etowah.
He was a lifelong resident of McMinn County and was a son of the late O.H. and Lora Marshall Hicks.
Wayne was a teacher for 18 years at McMinn County High School (Alternative Program), and retired from the U.S. Army after 23 years of service, having served during the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Susan Hicks, of Englewood; his son, John Hicks of Englewood.
There will be no formal visitation. The family will hold a memorial service at a later date at their home.
The family suggests memorials be made to Appalachian Bear Rescue, P.O. Box 364, Townsend, TN 37882; or to a charity of the giver's choice.
