Mary Elizabeth Cate, 93, of Athens, died Thursday, January 10, 2019, at Etowah Health Care.
She was a lifelong resident of McMinn County and was the daughter of the late Robert Bruce and Nora Lee Lawson Cate. She was also preceded in death by her brother and his wife, Edward "Buddy" and Doris Wood Cate and an infant niece Doris Cate.
She was a lifelong member of Cedar Springs United Methodist Church. Mary was a graduate of Tennessee Wesleyan University when it was a 2 year Women's College. She was associated with Athens Supply Company as a Bookkeeper for more than 40 years until her retirement, and after retiring she volunteered with E.G . Fisher Public Library for several years.
She is survived by two nieces and their husbands, Judy and Tommy Barnett of Athens and Jane and Bobby Harrelson of Moncks Corner, SC; a nephew and his wife, Robert "Bobby" and Robin Cate of Sumter, SC; and several great nieces and nephews.
The family will go in procession from the funeral home to McMinn Memory Gardens at 12:45 pm, for a graveside service at 1:00 pm, Saturday, January 12, 2019. There will be no formal visitation.
Pallbearers will include Randy Tallent, Alex Barnett, Robbie Harrelson, and Ryan Cate.
