Obituary for Charles Roy Rowland

Charles Roy Rowland, 61, of Englewood, transitioned to heaven Thursday morning, February 14, 2019 at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville.
He was a native of McMinn County and was a son of the late Glenn Rowland. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Mitchel Rowland, Beaulah Davis Rowland and Bronce Elkins, and Carolyn and Richard Slack, nieces, Stacie Brantley and Emalyne Medders, nephew, Jason Brantley, brother-in-law, Larry Ulery, special family friend, Joan Wilson, and his much loved little dog Mattie.
He was a member of Wildwood Baptist Church and was a graduate of McMinn County High School. Roy had an adventurous spirit and traveled the country working in the construction industry. He previously lived in Maryland, Colorado, Georgia, Florida and Tennessee.
Roy served in the U.S. Army as a Wheel Vehicle Mechanic.
He is survived by his mother, Betty Slack Rowland of Englewood; six sisters, Shamra (Greg)Hayes of Athens, Ann Ulery of Englewood, Susan (Mike Ellis) Wenzel of Halls, TN, Marie Rowland, Glenda Rowland, and Carol (David) Brantley all of Athens; one brother, Frank(Lisa) Rowland of Englewood; nieces and nephews, Cayla (Christian) Medders, Jeremy Rowland, Josh (Sarah) Wenzel, Marty (Jodi) Wenzel, Dustin Miller, Amanda Hayes, Rick (Stacy) Ulery, Sarah, Tucker and Kash Medders, Katie Ulery, and Addyson Billings; and two special aunts, Ruth McElhaney and Mary Lynn Slack.
A funeral service will be conducted, 7:00 pm, Saturday, February 16th in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with Greg Hayes and Dickie Slack officiating. The committal service will be held 10:30 am, Monday February 18th at Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Army. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm, Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Greg Hayes, Dustin Miller, Mike Ellis, Jeremy Rowland, Tucker Medders, Joshua Wenzel, Christian Medders and Marty Wenzel.
