Obituary for Ronald Lee Younger
Ronald Lee Younger,"Ron" age 80 of Athens, passed away Wednesday morning, February 20, 2019 at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville.
He was born and raised in Lynchburg, VA. Ron was the only child of the late Margaret L. Younger and Bennie T. Younger.
Ron graduated from North Carolina State University, Raleigh N.C., in 1961 in their school of Pulp and Paper Technology. He began his career with International Paper Company in Pine Bluff, Arkansas (1961-1969). He then went to work for J.M. Huber Corporation (Chemical Division) in Havre de Grace, MD (1969-1973). Huber transferred him to their Etowah, TN plant in 1973 where he became the Plant Manager and remained there until he retired.
Ron was a member of Keith Memorial United Methodist Church where he was active in their Adult Fellowship Group and the United Methodist Men. He had worked many years with Junior Achievement of McMinn County until a few years after retirement. Ron served in the Marine Corps Reserves for six years.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Gilliam Younger; two sons, Ronald Keith Younger of Athens and Steven Edward Younger (Jane) of Columbia, TN; two granddaughters, Rachel Y. Matthews (Todd) of Franklin,TN and Mary Elizabeth Y. Anderson (Kris) of Lynnville, TN; and two great-grandsons, Braeden C. Matthews and Rowan F. Matthews.
A memorial service will be conducted at 4:00 pm, Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Keith Memorial United Methodist Church, Athens, TN. The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 pm, Saturday at the church prior to the service.
