Obituary for Burl E "Homer" Jennings

Burl E. (Homer) Jennings, 80, of Decatur, died Sunday, May 19, 2019 at his residence.
He was a lifelong resident of Meigs County and was a son of the late Burl and Orzie Kile Jennings. He was also preceded in death by his in-laws, Malcolm and Mandy Brown, a brother Steve Jennings and a sister Ida Mae Shelton.
He was a member of Cottonport Baptist Church and was a member of Meigs F&AM Lodge #213. He served in the U.S. Army. Homer owned and operated BJ Trucking for over 25 years.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Emma Brown Jennings ; a daughter, Towanha Jennings ; a son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Laura Jennings; grandchildren, Katie and Brent Maddron and Kirstie and Dylan Neely; great-granddaughters, Annslee and Acelynn Madron and Lynnlee Neely; four sisters and two brother-in-law, Frances and Jim Carter, Ethel Layman, Martha Lillard, Maynard Shelton all of Decatur; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted, 11:00 am, Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at Cottonport Cemetery with Rev. Jamey Davis and Rev. Max Redman officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 21, 2019 from 5:00-8:00 am at Smith Funeral Home.
