Obituary for Betty Lou Garren (Thompson)

Betty Lou Thompson Garren, 79, of Athens, died Wednesday morning, September 4, 2019 at Starr Regional Medical Center.
She was a lifelong resident of McMinn County and was a daughter of the late Elisha and Viola Cranfill Thompson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joe E. Garren, and an infant daughter, Sharon Jo Garren.
She was a faithful member of Eastanallee Baptist Church and was associated with Bowaters as an Accounts Payable Clerk for 30 years. Her happiest moments were sitting on the couch quilting or appliquéing while watching a ballgame surrounded by her family.
She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Elisha and Eric Arnett of Athens and Patti Garren of Atlanta, GA; two grandsons, Gavin and Austin Arnett; one brother, Thomas Grant Thompson of Athens and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted, 2:00 pm, Saturday, September 7, 2019 in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with Rev. Miles Creasman officiating. Interment will follow in Eastanallee Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00-2:00 pm, Saturday, prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Billy Parkinson, Bill Harmon, Billy Joe Garren, Shawn Lingerfelt, Jeremy Lingerfelt and Ronnie Albert. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bob Wilson, Jim Davis and Cecil Elliott.
