Obituary for Donald H Kettenbeil
Donald H. Kettenbeil, 90 of Athens, passed away, Monday night, February 17, 2020, at Starr Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Calumet, Michigan and longtime resident of McMinn County and was a son of the late Harold Ernest and Eva Fishcer Kettenbeil. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Helen Grace Malmquist Kettenbeil, sister and brother-in-law, June and Red Pieski, brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Ora Kettenbeil, and brother-in-law, Paul Malmquist.
Don was a member of Mars Hill Presbyterian Church in Athens since 1969. He was a member of The Athens Kiwanis Club, Friends of the Library, and Trout Unlimited. He was a long time outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish with many friends especially Art Hamman who frequently checked in with Don to swap stories of memories made.
Don was retired from Hiwassee Land Company where he worked as a Woodlands Manager. He served his country in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Joe Cochran, III of Knoxville; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Donna Kettenbeil of Ten Mile; granddaughter, Grace Cochran; brothers and sisters-in-law, Curt and Darlene Malmquist, Pete and Linda Malmquist and Andrea Mamquist; and several special nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to give a special thank you to all of Don's special caregivers with Golden Touch and his Mars Hill Presbyterian Church family.
A memorial service will be conducted 11:00am, Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Mars Hill Presbyterian Church with Crawford King officiating. The family will receive friends in the Church Fellowship Hall after the service from Noon-2:00pm.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers that donations be made in Don's honor to Mars Hill Presbyterian Church, 205 North Jackson Street, Athens, TN 37303; or E.G. Fisher Library, 1289 Ingleside Avenue, Athens, TN 37303.
