Obituary for Edward Hugh "Ed" Bain

Edward H. (Wortie) Bain, of Athens, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2020 at NHC of Athens.
He was born July 26, 1934 in Etowah and grew up in Englewood. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Jessie Rayburn Bain and step-mother, Grace Standridge Bain, his wife, Jerrie Carpenter Bain, and siblings Katherine Watson, Ruel Bain, and Bob Bain.
He was a member of Central Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Englewood High School and attended Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan.He was associated with Bowater Paper Mill for 40 years as a millwright until his retirement.
His greatest joy in life was his grandchildren whom he loved very much. He was a proud member of the Republican Party. He enjoyed the outdoors and being with family.
He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Terri Bain and Tim and Jamie Bain all of Athens; granddaughter and her husband, Krista and Trevor Burns; grandson, Tyler Bain; sister and her husband, Dianne and Bill Constant of Englewood; several nieces and nephews; and a close friend Alfreda Trotter of Athens.
A funeral service will be conducted, 7:00 pm, Tuesday, July 28, 2020 in the Chapel of Smith Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Bernard officiating. The committal service will be 11:00 am, Wednesday at McMinn Memory Gardens with Military honors at the graveside provided by U.S Army. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00-7:00 pm Tuesday prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Gene Davis, Ronnie Bain, Justin Constant, Austin Constant, Tyler Bain, and Trevor Burns.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Staff of NHC and Caris Hopspice for 4 years of love and care provided to Ed.
The family suggests memorials be made to Central Baptist Church of Athens, 13 Nash Drive, Athens, TN 37303 or Camp Cherokee, Calhoun, TN.
