Obituary for Geneva Jo Bacon (Womac)

Geneva Jo Womac Bacon, 92 of Athens, passed away Sunday, March 20,2022 at NHC Healthcare of Athens.
She was a lifelong resident of McMinn County and was the daughter of the late Schuyler Noah “S.N.” and Lillie Lee Miller Womac. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry Newell Bacon, a son Carroll Edwin Bacon, son-in-law Themis “TR” Casteel, and infant brother Lynn Womac .Brothers and sisters in law Kathleen Bacon, RT (Francis) Womac of Niota, JP Womac,Ralph (Betty Jane) Bacon, Edd (Mildred) Bacon, Walter Parkinson, all of Riceville, Bobby (Christine) Bacon of Cleveland, Nora Mae (Paul) Kelly of Granada, MS, Ida Lee (Milton) Hall of Louisville, KY, Houston Belk of Sweetwater, Darrell Newman of Chattanooga, David James of Etowah, sisters and brothers in law Vesta (Luther) Hunt of Chattanooga, Grace (Ray) Evans of Riceville, Irene (Wallace) Cupp of Lakeland, Fl, mother and father in law Rob & Nora Roderick Bacon of Riceville, and several nieces and nephews.
She was a member of North Athens Baptist Church. She graduated fromSt. Mary’s Nursing School Knoxville in 1950 as a Registered Nurse. She worked at Foree Hospital and 60 years at Sweetwater Hospital.
She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Casteel and Rita Bacon both of Athens; granddaughters and their husbands, Jeanne and Keith Wilson of Athens and Christy and Dennie White of Ten Mile; great-grandchildren, Ben Walker, Dane, Dax, and Demi Jo Pennington; and sister-in-laws, Myrtle Womac and Lene Parkinson of Riceville, Dean Newman of Chattanooga, Jean James of Etowah, Ruby Belk of Sweetwater, and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted 1:30 PM, Thursday, in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Kerr officiating. Interment will follow in Riceville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:30PM, Thursday at the funeral home prior to the service.
Pallbearers will beRodney Belk, Randy Breedwell, Trevin Parkinson, Dane Pennington, Ben Walker, and Merv Weerasekera.
