Obituary for Catherine Loraine Melton

Catherine L. Melton, of Athens, TN passed away peacefully at her Morning Pointe home on May 21, 2022 just days after her 97th birthday. Catherine was born May 10, 1925 in Athens to her parents Leigh & Beulah Melton. Catherine has joined her parents and family in her heavenly home; her sisters Hazel Riden, Freda Fowlkes, Annette Wade, and Becky Cook; her dear Aunt Martha Ann Ware Sullins and great nephew Zach Cook
Catherine was a trailblazer for women in her career. She worked for South Central Bell of Chattanooga, TN in her early career and was quickly recognized as a strong, productive leader and finished her career there as one of the few female managers before retiring to Athens in the early 1980's to be near her family.
Catherine was a faithful member of Keith Memorial United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities.
Catherine made Morning Pointe of Athens her home over ten years ago. She was known and loved by so many residents and staff alike while there. She was often the self appointed welcome committee for Morning Pointe's weekly Bible study.
Catherine is survived by nieces and nephews; Bernie & (wife) Jackie Fowlkes, Brenda Heaton, Jeff & (wife) Cindy Wade, Ben Riden, Judy Riden; and niece and nephews she claimed as her "kids", Mark & (wife) Cheri Cook, Randy & (wife) Anna Cook, Melanie Cook Johnson &(husband) Barry. Great nieces and nephews; Seth Cook, Cory Cook, Shelby Ogle, Evan Johnson and Daniel Johnson.
A memorial service will be conducted, 4:00 pm, Wednesday, May 25th at Keith Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. David Graybeal officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 3:00-4:00 pm prior to the service.
A private family burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Keith Memorial United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1, Athens, TN 37371-0001.
