James (Jimmy) Howard Moore, 87, of Athens, passed away Friday, November 18, 2022 at Morning Pointe of Athens.
He was a lifelong resident of McMinn County and was a son of the late Hugh and Essie Knox Moore. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Judith Ann Ashley Moore.
He was a member of Keith Memorial United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Tennessee Wesleyan University and was an Auditor with the IRS for 30 years until his retirement. He served in the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia Ann and Gary Newman of Niota and Nancy Rae and Art Howard of Riceville; son and daughter-in-law, Samuel and Connie Moore of Murfreesboro; two granddaughters, Faith Ann Newman and Mikayla Moore; three grandsons, Ricky Newman, Ryne Miller, and Matthew Moore; one great-grandson, Eli Newman; and brother, Don Moore of Riceville.
A funeral service will be conducted 7:00 pm, Tuesday, November 22, 2022 in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Lackey officiating. The committal service will be 10:00 am, Wednesday, November 23, 2022 in Cedar Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm Tuesday at the funeral home prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Gary Newman, Art Howard, Ricky Newman, Ryne Miller, Matthew Moore, Bobby Moore and Jeff Moore.
