Obituary for Velma S Eaton (Riggs)

Velma Riggs Eaton, 84, of Englewood, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at Starr Regional Medical Center in Athens.
She was a lifelong resident of McMinn County and was the daughter of the late Woody and Parrilee Cooper Riggs. She was also preceded in death by her husband LeRoy Eaton, brother Eugene Cooper and sister Wanda Webb.
She was one of the oldest members of Manilla Chapel Baptist Church, where she was a secretary and treasurer for over 50 years. She was the Director of the McMinn and Meigs Baptist Crisis Center and also a sub for Englewood and McMinn Central cafeteria, but was a women of great faith.
She is survived by five children, Darryl Eaton of Niota, Harold and Wendy Eaton of Niota, Larry and Melissa Eaton of Athens, Amanda and Michael McDowell and Rhonda White of Englewood; grandchildren, Cayci and Wayne Hicks, Jr, Colby and Tangie Eaton, Nick and Chesea Eaton, Michael and Mandy Eaton, LeAnn Eaton, Nathan and Leslie McDowell, Kayla McDowell, Mitch and Mariah Ellis, Krespon and Lacey Workman; great grandchildren, Maddy and Hallie Hicks, Rhett and Beau Eaton, Hudson Blair, Abby Thompson, Lyric and Bryndle Eaton, Liam Eaton, Ansley Eaton, Lexie, Kinsley, Elena Workman, and Broody Ellis; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Patsy Riggs; brother, Jackie Cooper, brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Carolyn Cooper; brother-in-law and his wife, Amos and Alma Eaton and her sister-in-law and her husband, Edna and Raymond Wilburn; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted, 1:00 pm, Friday, December 23, 2022 in the Chapel of Smith Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Watson and Jerry Stephens officiating. Interment will follow in the Fain Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm, Thursday, December 22, 2022 at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Colby Eaton, Nick Eaton, Michael Eaton, Nathan McDowell, Jerry Riggs, Jr., David Hampton, Wayne Hicks, Jr., and Mitch Ellis.
