Obituary for Edith Clio Hutsell (Layman)

Edith Layman Hutsell, 97, of Athens, passed away, Monday, December 26, 2022 at Athens Place of Athens.
She was a lifelong resident of McMinn County and was a daughter of the late James Gilford and Clio Hutsell Layman. She was also preceded in death by her husband Frank (Buster) Hutsell, Jr and sisters, Ruth Walker and Joyce Murphy, and brother Ray Layman.
Edith was a member of Union Chapel United Methodist Church and was a graduate of University of Tennessee in Knoxville. She was a lifetime member of the McMinn County Historical Society.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and Deborah Hutsell of Hixson, TN and Dean and Linda Hutsell of Fairview, NC; grandchildren, Dr. Staci (Ben) H. Cannon, Kaylee, Olivia, Savannah, Amelia, Malina, Jadyn, and Lt. Commander Neal P (Tina) Hutsell; great-grandchildren, Luke Everett Hutsell, Nolan Mark Hutsell, James Allen Hutsell, Annika Elizabeth Hutsell, and Wesley Forest Cannon; and sisters, Virginia Baker of Blacksburg, VA and Hazel Dake of Athens.
A funeral service will be conducted 11:30 am, Monday, January 9, 2023 in the Chapel of Smith Funeral Home with Rev. Adam Sutton (Layleader). The family will have a private burial at 2:00 pm, Monday, January 9, 2023 in Union Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30-11:30 am, Monday January 9th at the funeral home prior to the service.
