Obituary for Virginia Jo "JO" Stansell (Moore)
Virginia "Jo" Moore Stansell, 79, of Athens, passed away,Friday, February 17, 2023 at her residence.
She was a lifelong resident of McMinn County and was a daughter of the late Wayne and Agnes Casteel Moore. She was also preceded in death by her husband Eddie Stansell.
She was a member of Wildwood Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Calhoun High School, Tennessee Wesleyan University and received her Master's degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. She taught school for 32 years at McMinn County Vocational School and worked in the office for 5 years at Calhoun High School. She and her late husband were co-owners of Superior Sporting Goods.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Monica and Frank Howard of Athens; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Eric and Kristina Stansell of Nolensville, TN and Marcus Stansell of Athens; three grandsons, Bradley Howard of Athens, Hayden Stansell of Etowah and Alexander Stansell of Nolensville; two granddaughters, Xavianna Moore of Cleveland and Katherine Stansell of Nolensville; three sisters, Louise (Gerald) Kelly of Cleveland, Gail (David) McConnell of Ten Mile, and Brenda Eslinger of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted 12:00 pm, Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Wildwood Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Vest officiating. Interment will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 am-12:00pm prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Terry Stansell, Shawn Kelly, Wayne Kelly, James Reid, Keith McConnell, and Matt Stansell. Honorary pallbearer will be Chris Myers.
The family wishes to thank the University of Tennessee Medical Center and the Hospice of Chattanooga for their care of Jo and also a special thanks to Stephanie Wilson.
