Obituary for Peggy Dover (Howington)

Peggy Ann Dover, 81, of Riceville, peacefully passed away on April 8, 2023 while residing at LifeCare of Collegedale. Peggy was born in September of 1941 to Guy Howington and Rachel Adams Howington in Jefferson, GA.

Peggy was a devoted employee of Olin Corporation at the Charleston and Cleveland locations with 34 years of service. She took pride in her work and the friendships she established during her career and was celebrated by peers and colleagues upon retirement in 2018.

She attended Tennessee Wesleyan University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management, summa cum laude, while working full-time and taking care of her household. Peggy enjoyed being “Nana” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, decorating her home and hosting for holiday gatherings, gardening, and vacationing at Disney World and the beach. She was a member of Keith Memorial United Methodist Church in Athens.

Peggy was the loving wife of the late Jerry L. Dover; mother to Russell (Amy) Dover of Ooltewah, Dallas (Jenny) Dover of Nolensville, TN, and the late Regina (Jim) Allen of Athens, TN; sister to Martha, Bobby, ‘Dickie’, and Charles of Jefferson, GA; the proud grandmother of Kristin Allen Barbree, Erica Allen Peden, Lexie Allen, Rachel Dover, Tyler Allen, Juliana Dover, Andrew Dover, and Zachary Dover; and the proud great grandmother of Carson Barbree, Artemis Martin, Indiana Giltnane, Audrey Barbree, and Jack Peden.

The family will receive friends at Smith Funeral Home of Athens, TN on Monday, April 17th from 1:30-3:00pm, with a chapel service immediately following, officiated by Rev. Melissa Smith. Interment will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Keith Memorial United Methodist Church, PO Box 1, Athens, TN, 37371.
