Obituary for Lawrence Franklin "Frank" Carpenter Jr.
Frank Carpenter, of Athens, TN, died on May 15, 2023 at his home at the age of 82.
He grew up in New Hope, Alabama. His parents were the late Mr. Frank and Mrs. Helen Robinson Carpenter.
He was a graduate of the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa and a staunch supporter of the Crimson Tide.
After working for the YMCA in Huntsville, Alabama, Frank came to Athens, TN to direct and build the current YMCA. He then built and developed Athens Mini Storage Company and worked for Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company.
He was preceded in death by a beloved son Lawrence "Trey" Carpenter and a step-daughter, Audra Inman.
Frank is survived by his wife of 48 years, Susan Frye Carpenter, his daughter, Kelley C. Michie of Charlotte, NC; son, Alan Carpenter of Greensboro, NC; step-son and wife, Craig and Carolyn Inman of Mt. Juliet, TN; and three grandchildren, Jack and Mary Catherine Michie and Madison Inman.
He will be buried in Bethel Cemetery in New Hope, Alabama at a later date.
