Mary Jack Marks Hicks, 91, of Athens and Ten Mile, passed away on Monday morning, December 14, 2015 following a brief illness.
Mary Jack was born on August 13, 1924 in Memphis, Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Vance and Mary Virginia Windrow Marks.
She was a member of Keith Memorial United Methodist Church.
She graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, after graduation she worked as a traveling Home Economist. She later taught home economics at McMinn County High School. Mary Jack loved her family and friends. She enjoyed having her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren visit the family lake house on Watts Bar Lake.
She is survived by her husband, Hunter McDonald Hicks, Jr. of Athens and Ten Mile,TN; sons, Hunter (Don) McDonald Hicks,III and his wife Sharon of Roswell, GA, Mark Millard Hicks and wife Leslie of Collierville, TN, and Edward Dickson Hicks, V of Sweetwater, TN ; and daughter Elizabeth(Beth) Hicks Beaty and husband Rufus of Greenville, SC; grandchildren, Hunter McDonald Hicks, IV, Julia Marie Hicks, Maryann Kelly Hicks, Reagan Bruce Hicks, Reagan Lenoir Hicks Williams, and husband Curtis, Edward Dickson Hicks, VI, Grace Lenoir Beaty and Julia Elizabeth Beaty; great-grandchildren, London Williams and Charlotte Williams; a brother, Dr. Thomas Marks and wife Mary Ann of Atlanta, GA; brother-in-law Jim Hicks and wife Julia Ann; beloved niece and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm, Thursday, December 17, 2015 at Smith Funeral Home in Athens.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mary Jack Hicks will be held on Friday, December 18, 2015 at 11:00 am at Keith Memorial United Methodist Church in Athens. A committal service will be 10:00 am, Friday at County Line, Browder Memorial Cemetery south of Sweetwater, TN on U.S. Hwy. 11.
Pallbearers will be Hunter McDonald Hicks, IV, Edward Dickson Hicks, VI, Tracy Simpson, Les Jones, Trevor Jones, Fred Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Art Ewing , Jack Ewing, Speight Bird, and Dr. Chris Maynard.
