Bruce Dexter Webb, 81 of Athens, died Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at Starr Regional Medical Center.
He was a lifelong resident of Athens and was the son of the late Floyd D. and Brucie Small Webb. He was also preceded in death by a daughter Robin Webb Marks, and sisters Virginia Henry and Vivian Yarbrough.
He was a longtime member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He was a longtime member of Spring Brook Golf and Country Club where he was an avid golfer and club champion in 1977. Dexter enjoyed special times on Watts Bar Lake fishing and all outdoor activities, and farming .
He and his father owned and operated Webb Stone Company until it was sold in 1973. In 1976, Dexter founded Tennessee Log Homes along with Thomas Wilkins in Athens. Dexter was ultimately the sole owner until joined by his son in 1987. Together they successfully designed and built over 5000 custom homes for over the next two decades. He was an avid community supporter and employer.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marion Burton Webb of Athens; one daughter, Julie Webb Brock of Athens; one son, Burton Webb of Knoxville; grandchildren, Dexter Webb, Adrienne Webb, Mary Grace Brock, Jackson Brock, Hailey Brock Wood and her spouse Jesse, Schaefer Marks and Hunter Marks; two sisters-in-law and their spouses, Ellen and Joe Washington of Cleveland and Jane and Charles Clark of Dalton, GA; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and friends and neighbors in Boca Grande, FL.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm, Friday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Athens with Father Hendree Harrison officiating. A reception will be held following the service in the church Parish.
