Martha Lou Choate Armstrong, 92, of Athens, died Monday afternoon, April 20, 2015 at her residence.
She was a lifelong resident of McMinn County and was a daughter of the late Frank and Maggie Tallent Choate. She was also preceded in death by her husband Charles W. Armstrong; sisters, Arbutus Mayfield, Daphney Blair and Joyce Culpepper; brothers, Nelson, Ernest and Robert (Booge) Choate; and a son-in-law, David Brown. She was a member of Wesleyanna United Methodist Church. She enjoyed visiting and caring for others. She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Billie A. Brown of Knoxville and Jane and Jim Rogers of Knoxville; one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Kay Armstrong of Athens; two granddaughters and their spouses, Suzy and Doug Fowler of Knoxville and Camille and Henry Hampton of Palm Springs, California; three grandsons and their spouses, C. Scott and Pam Rogers, Chris and Shelley Rogers all of Knoxville and Charles J. Armstrong of Athens; six great-grandchildren; two sisters Ovaline Massingale of Etowah and Pat Klein of Knoxville; three brothers, Bill Choate, Dan Choate and Gene Choate all of Etowah.
A funeral service will be conducted, 7:00 pm, Wednesday, April 22, 2015 in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Choate and Lay Speaker John Wood officiating. The committal service will be 11:00 am, Thursday at McMinn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 4:30-6:30 pm, Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the service. Pallbearers will be grandsons, grandsons-in-law, and Allen Carter.
