Obituary

Anna Mae Humphreys Derrick, of Athens, went to her eternal home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus on Monday morning, December 16, at Willow Acres in Riceville. She was 93.
She was a lifelong resident of McMinn County and was the daughter of the late Guy and Roxie Kyker Humphreys. She is reunited in Heaven with her loving husband of 62 years Sherman Derrick, Jr.; brother, Marion Humphreys, and a daughter-in-law, Anna Bohannon Derrick.
Anna Mae was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, who loved to spend time with family and friends. She loved to cook for them and was associated with the McMinn County school system for over twenty years, most famously as the cafeteria manager at Athens Junior High, a job she took so that she could be home whenever her children were home. After retirement she went to work at Ingles Grocery Store, before devoting the last 15 years of her husband’s life to caring for him in his illness.A faithful member of First Baptist Church of Athens, Anna Mae was a lifelong servant of the Lord who went home secure in the knowledge she had served God’s purpose for her life. She will be remembered by the staff at Willow Acres, where she lived for the last 10 years, for her love, kindness, and devoted expression of her Christian faith.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Dan Adkins of Knoxville; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Steve Derrick of Harriman, and Sid and Sandra Derrick of Dalton, GA; grandchildren, Adam (Christi) Derrick, Seth (Sabrina) Derrick, Luke Adkins, Lindsey Derrick, and Kate Adkins; great-grandchildren, Jason, Brianna, Riley,Chris and Katie; great-great-granddaughter Ella; and several nieces and nephews. The family extends special thanks to Angie Martin and Sonja McDermott for there friendship and loving care of Anna Mae.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm, Friday, December 20, 2019 with a funeral service to follow in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home, Chuck Whittemore officiating. The committal service will be 11:00 am, Saturday, December 21, 2019 at McMinn Memory Gardens.
Grandsons Adam Derrick, Seth Derrick, and Luke Adkins; Great-grandsons Jason Derrick, Chris Derrick, and Riley Derrick will serve as pallbearers.

Gone is the body but the memories will last forever. I have known her for years especially when we both were in First Baptist Church. It seems like every day one of Betty Ann's and my friends is going on to the Lord. It may have to do with the fact that Betty Ann is 85 and I am 86. A lady has left us.

Rest in peace Anna Mae. I had the pleasure of knowing you through Willow Acres. You always made me laugh and we had some really great conversations that I will never forget. You were the sweetest woman I know. You used to give me a hug and tell me you loved me before bed. I was so lucky to be able to be your caretaker and a part of your life. Love you Anna Mae 💕. You will be dearly missed.
