Obituary

On Friday, March 6, 2020, David Travis Tacker, 56, passed away at his home in Cleveland. David was a beloved brother, uncle, and friend and his passing is felt very deeply by those who knew him.
David was best known for his immense kindness and for the joyous way that he approached life. He wasthe sort of person who was ready at a moment’s notice to lend a hand or an ear, whatever the need may be. Before you even knew your glass was getting empty, he was already by your side with a refill.David was an avid UT fan, attending games whenever he could and never passing up an opportunity to wear Volunteer orange. He had a passion for animals, especially dogs.
David grew up in Athens, Tennessee, and lived most recently in Cleveland. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Jerry and Patsy Lee Tacker, and by his brother, Timothy Wade Tacker. He is survived by his brother, John J. Tacker, Jr. of Cleveland; his two sisters and one brother-in-law, Kimberly Tacker and Kay and Rex Barton, all of Athens; his nieces Shawna Meade, Jodi Sexton, Holly Cantrell, and Cayci Byers; and several great nieces and nephews.
The family invites you to join us as we receive friends at Smith Funeral Home on March 11, 2020, from 4:30-6:30 pm, followed by a service at 6:30 pm. A committal service will be held on March 12, 2020 at 10:00 am at McMinn Memory Gardens.
In recogination of David's love of dogs, the family encourages everyone to honor David's memory and, in lieu of flowers, send donations in his name to the McMinn Regional Humane Society, 219 Alford Street, Athens, TN 37303.
The family encourages those who knew and loved David to post your favorite memories and photos of David to his Facebook page and keep the tribute going.

I didn't know David as well as John but I remember when we went to Boone, NC on a skiing trip, one of the of the teenagers hurt themselves on the trip and he volunteered to sacrifice his day to drive (icy and snowing) the young man's mother and I to the hospital and offered to stay as long as needed. He was a giver and a servant to others. Gail Kugler
