Obituary

Jesse Hamilton, (Jess) Guinn, Jr., 85, passed peacefully at his home on the Hiwassee River in Delano, TN on Monday, February 17, 2020.
He was a successful businessman, with a great knowledge and expertise in constructing large tunnels for underground utilities and in later years, working with Athens Utilities Board. Jess travelled extensively for business and pleasure, and never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jesse, Sr. and Elizabeth Long Guinn and a son Stephen Douglas Guinn.
Jess is survived by his wife, Janna Hawkins of Delano; daughter, Susan Elaine Guinn of Riceville; son, Michael Anthony Guinn of St. Petersburg, FL; sister, Charlotte (Sissy) and Jimmy Miller of Nashville; several nieces and his faithful furry "kids", Romey and Cinnamon.
Special thanks for the compassionate care provided by Amedysis Hospice of Athens, his "love him like a son" friend Dr. Charles Cox, true and wonderful friend Dennis Waters of Benton, and the support and many visits by his Bojangles' buddies.
A celebration of Jess's life will be held at a later date to be announced.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to McMinn Regional Humane Society, 219 Alford Street, Athens, TN 37303.

I have known Jess (Junior,Nooney) since 1945-46,I went to Forest Hill,he went to Practice school.I moved on the Long Mill road,They built a house out the road from me,him and I would signal each other from our bedroom windows at night using Morse Code. His dad was always after us for leaving his tools out in the weather.Jess and I were in the Boy Scouts together under Prof Powers and Mr.Hines.We left Athens close together, myself with the 278th Reg.Team,he went west and became a smoke eater with the Calif.Fire service.I got back home after military service and we got together again.Worked for him at Allied Tire and Rental and his Boring company.Him and I built the sewage system for the mushroom plant in Louden from the plant down town, lot of manholes,we went to New Orleans together, lots of trips to Green Cove camping. To sum it all up.Jess was and is the best friend I have ever had.He had a good life and I will miss him.
